Step into the breathtaking landscapes of Guatemala’s Ring of Fire, a country blessed with more than 37 volcanoes, each with its own beauty and character. Among them, Pacaya Volcano is one of the most welcoming and accessible to visitors. Known for its gentle slopes, fascinating lava rock formations, and spectacular views, Pacaya offers an unforgettable hiking experience that’s suitable for all adventure levels. Although it is a living volcano, its activity is of the Strombolian and occasionally Plinian, carefully monitored, making it a safe and unique way to experience Guatemala’s volcanic wonders up close.
Rising to about 8,000 feet above sea level, Pacaya is an ideal destination for travelers seeking an easy to moderate ascent with epic panoramic views. From the summit, you’ll spot three other towering volcanoes in the distance, Agua, Acatenango, and Fuego. While standing among a surreal landscape of cooled lava fields and volcanic rock.
Along the way, we’ll pause at steam vents and hot lava pockets where you can roast marshmallows, a tradition that’s as fun as it is unique. At the top, we’ll prepare a special picnic for you: freshly made tortillas and cheese, gently heated by the volcano’s natural warmth, accompanied by your choice of toppings, chicken or pork slices, seasonal fruits, tomato sauce, avocado, beans, green onions, and lime. Just like a true Chapín. (Vegan option available.)
Please keep in mind: it is a good idea to wear comfortable shoes for climbing or riding, a water proof jacket, hat, sunscreen and sun glasses.
